Everyone likes to live a balanced and normal life. But there are such conditions in which person reacts in an abnormal way this disease is called factitious disorder. In factitious disorder person reacts as if he has illness by showing feigning and exaggerating symptoms. Under factitious disorder person produces, exaggerates symptoms in a person who is in great care.
People in such diseases produce symptoms by urine test and by taking injection to produce infections in their body. People with such disease may be motivated to produce to gain any kind of attention, nurturance, leniency and sympathy.
Motive of patient in such disease can be getting attention, nurturance and attention and playing a sick role. In case of malingering, patient wishes to obtain external gain like disability payments and to ignore unhappy situation. Both factitious disorder and malingering are disorder but malingering is not a mental disorder. It is done to obtain some sort of benefits like fake injury car in accident.
Factitious disorder can be distinguished from somatoform disorder under which patient experience the symptoms and don’t intend to deceive. These disorders include conversion disorder, dysmorphic disorder, somatization disorder and pain disorder. In these conditions, patient believes he or she has a particular disorder like factitious disorder.
Criteria for diagnosis include intentionally fabricating to produce symptoms of psychological disorder. Motivation for such patient must be sick role. Patient does not do such acts to have any personal gain. When individual applies this sickness to any one for example a child then it is called factitious disorder.
Manchausen syndrome disorder has some specified disorder under which an individual may go major surgery. Manchausan by proxy is the involuntary use of another individual like a child by their parents to produce appearance of sickness. Ganser syndrome is a seprate disorder. It is because of excessive stress. In this patient suffers from giving absurd answer to simple question. This syndrome can be cause of malingering.
There are many causes of all such problems. One such reason is personality disorder. Individual with FD may be trying to repeat a satisfying childhood relationship. A background of negligence and abandonment may be reason for FD.
No true psychic treatment is recommended for FD. While selective treatment for such diseases is advisable like sere tonic reuptake inhibitors.
Physicians prescribed mood disorder of FD. Some authors also report good responses to ant psychic drugs like pimozide. Such diseases are basically resolved with great love, care and attention.
